OptiMet
How it works

One station. Four layers.
From the sky to your screen.

An OptiMet station doesn’t just log numbers — it measures, thinks, connects and delivers. Four layers work together so the right data reaches the right people the moment it matters.

01

Measure

A full environmental suite on one pole — wind, rainfall, temperature, humidity, pressure, solar, water level, road state, visibility and air quality. Every sensor speaks Modbus, so a station is configured to the site, not the other way around. Add what the site needs; the gateway just reads it.

02

Edge

Intelligence lives on the station, not just in the cloud. The gateway decides what to capture and when — triggering a camera image on a rainfall threshold, flagging a rising water level, or holding transmission windows to protect a remote solar/battery site. It keeps working, and keeps thinking, even when the link is down.

03

Connect

Data leaves the station over 4G/5G and fails over to SpaceX Direct-to-Cell satellite automatically when the tower drops — a world first on the One NZ network. No dish, no second install. When the cell tower goes down, the data still gets through. See the connectivity story →

04

Use

Live data arrives however you want it — pull it through the open API, view it in a ready-made front end, or watch the RMS dashboard with station health, alerts and remote-in. Or hand us the lot as a fully managed service. Explore the platform →

Edge intelligence

It doesn’t just record the weather — it reacts to it.

Because the logic runs on the station, OptiMet turns raw readings into action in the field: a camera fires when rain crosses a threshold, a rising river triggers an alert, a thermal reading warns of an icing road. The decision happens where the data is made — then the result is pushed out, not just stored for later.

Measure → decide on the edge → deliver. In seconds, not after the fact.

Measure anything

Place it anywhere — we get the data out.

Every OptiMet sensor runs Modbus-RTU over RS485, read by the station gateway. That means the same station can carry weather, water level, road state, visibility or air quality — mix and match to the site. Not sure which sensors fit? The selector narrows it down in seconds.
